Let Down: Dance Performance

Research output: Non-textual formPerformance

Abstract

Let Down is a dance theatre performance I choreographed and co-performed about women's experiences of breastfeeding. The work was initially commissioned by Breastival and was also supported by an award from the Being Human Festival (AHRC/BA) and the Northern Ireland Mental Health Arts and Film Festival. Incorporating sociological research on breastfeeding in Northern Ireland by Dr Maria Herron (UU), the work was a collaboration between myself and psychologist and sociologist Dr Jennifer Hanratty, dancer Paula O'Reilly, composer Sorca McGrath, and dramaturge Emily DeDakis. There were three performances between August and December 2018 attended by current and former breastfeeding mothers and their babes in arms, fathers and other family members and caregivers, midwives, and other stakeholders in the maternity services.
