Abstract

A recent survey of nineteenth-century editions of Bach’s works held by the Riemenschneider Bach Institute (RBI) has brought to light a hitherto unknown relationship between Felix Mandelssohn Bartholdy and Bach’s Schubler Chorales (BWV 645-650). In the following report we describe the source and attempt to assess its meaning and significance for Bach-Mendelssohn scholarship.
