Abstract
This chapter will focus on aspects of the war which have developed within the historiography more recently, influenced in particular by the Northern Ireland peace process and the recent centenary of the war. These themes are changing attitudes to the memory and commemoration of the war, reflecting political developments in Ireland; a gendered analysis, including women’s experience, of the war; contemporary and later Irish war poets; and Irish veterans’ postwar experience.
