Abstract

This paper presented some historical observations on the growth of child welfare systems internationally and a summary of the authors' research into policy led attempts to ‘rebalance’ the child welfare system in the United Kingdom. Developments in relation to establishing an evidence base for interventions (the Multiple Adverse Experiences research group) were also outlined as were considerations for the future direction of child welfare systems internationally (public health model or targeted interventions).
