Abstract
Since early 2019, I have been developing a methodology of reflexive and co-created nonfiction video installation with a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) community in rural Ireland. The GAA is the most ubiquitous cultural and sporting organisation in Ireland, with a central presence in almost every community. It is voluntary-run, self-organised and not-for-profit by design, with strong links to religious and state institutions. It’s values have beencentral to Irish national identity for over one hundred years. This work involves a combination of specific disciplines and techniques, including participatory art, ethnographic filmmaking, sensory ethnography, and video installation. InApril/ May 2022 an exhibition of this work titled The Parish is taking place in Cork, Ireland. This exhibition includes a multi-channel video installation and an open, discursive space for considering the unique cultural space that the GAA occupies in Ireland .For the XXVII Visible Evidence Conference, I propose to present an account of the development of my methodology and its outcome in collaboration with the GAA community, along with samples of video work.
