Abstract

General dental practitioners (GDPs) frequently encounter patients presenting with
oral ulceration. Oral ulceration has a variety of aetiologies and clinical presentations,
which can aid in the diagnosis and management of the condition. This article
discusses the different aetiologies, classical clinical findings, and management
regimes for oral ulceration. Furthermore, this article will also support GDPs to
identify cases of oral ulceration that may require referral to a secondary care setting.
