Abstract

The academic world advocates national and international collaboration, but, given the intense focus on publications, funding milestones, and peer appraisals, it also fosters fierce competition. This chapter explores what can happen when good people are exposed to bad contingencies that lead to hostility, conflict, bullying, and harassment. Strategies are described that may be useful to navigate these turbulent systems and ultimately lead to the promotion of overall well-being, collegiality, prosociality, and compassion in the team.
