Promoting physical activity in Ireland: a case study of All Island All Active (AIAA)

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

In this chapter, the authors present the whole of Ireland as a case study and outline how All Island All Active (AIAA), a new collaborative platform which facilitates cross-sector, multidisciplinary, top-down and bottom-up knowledge production in sport and physical activity, has emerged. AIAA aims to find new ways of effective engagement around physical activity promotion. The AIAA case study highlights this influence through the use of the multi/interdisciplinary concept of Sport and Exercise Pedagogy (SEP), which is the underpinning philosophy of AIAA and the Sport for Life: All Island project which presents a concrete example of how SEP works with psychological theory in action and, finally, by analysing the formation of AIAA using both psychological theory and innovation theory the authors provide direction for psychologists who are maybe about to, or are currently engaging with, multidisciplinary teams in designing or delivering physical activity interventions.
