Bibliographical note

I was a co-writer of this paper and played a key role in the development of two ‘tools’ used in the paper. One is the SEMAINE SAL Database (integral to the EU SEMAINE Sensitive Agent Project 2008-2011). The project aimed to develop a computer interface that would allow a human to interact with an artificial agent in an emotional manner. The SEMAINE SAL Database entails a series of new relevant collection and labelling techniques. The other is the ASSESS (Automatic Speech Analysis System) developed by Cowie and Douglas-Cowie.
