T1 - Reconfigurable Notch-Band UWB Antenna with RF-to-DC Rectifier for Dynamic Reconfigurability

N2 - A dynamically reconfigurable UWB antenna with a notch band at 5.6 GHz is presented. The microstrip-fed monopole uses a J-shaped stub hosted inside a rectangular slot which is used for improved matching. The J-shaped stub can be connected or disconnected to the monopole using a PIN diode switch. In order to dynamically switch the PIN diode between 'ON' and 'OFF' states, a rectifier can be used to convert an RF signal at 5.6 GHz into a DC voltage that can be indirectly used to bias the PIN diode. The presence of an interfering signal at 5.6 GHz dynamically causes the biasing of the PIN diode and the creation of the notch that effectively filters out the interferer. Despite the rectifier's relatively high efficiency, the rectified DC power is not sufficient to bias the PIN diode, therefore, the RF-to-DC rectifier needs to be cascaded with a DC-to-DC power booster.
