Abstract

The internationalization and globalization of research and teaching in the legal field, including criminal law, offer the opportunity to carry out some reflections on the circulation of ideas and paradigms between legal systems. This paper is concerned with a model — that of the United States of America — which, despite its belonging to a different legal tradition, today exerts an undeniable and growing influence on the Italian system. After discussing and problematizing the similarities and, above all, the differences between the two systems with regard to research as well as teaching in the criminal law field, the paper focuses on those contaminations that appear potentially capable of leading to “virtuous hybridizations” that are not culturally subordinate — as such, not likely to compromise or distort the tradition of analysis and teaching in the criminal law field in our country but, indeed,
suitable to enrich and even strengthen it.
