Review of Reflexes, Learning and Behavior.

Reviews the book, Reflexes, Learning and Behavior by Sally Goddard (2005). In this book, the author has written about the physical basis to learning and behavior problems. One of the most interesting points made in this book is the fact that the brain is indeed plastic, and with the right stimulation brain functions can be compensated for and new neurological connections can be formed where others were damaged. In the first few chapters, each primitive reflex is described and the implications are outlined if the primitive reflex remains active beyond the normal period. In the other part of the book, the author goes into the physical basis of learning difficulties and suggests exercises to stimulate brain functioning that can be used to help develop appropriate reflexes. This book should be of interest to physicians, psychologists, teachers, childcare professionals, and parents in the assessment of academic and other problems and in determining what interventions may be useful.
