Abstract
We give an overview of our own recent work on the 1918-19 influenza pandemic in Ireland (Colvin and McLaughlin, published in: Economics and Human Biology, 2021), and outline how we think it changes our understanding of the course of the disease. In particular, we highlight the limits of the Covid-19/Spanish flu analogy by re-estimating the demographic impact of the two pandemics.
