Abstract

In this paper, a single-layer single-polarization rectifying surface for microwave wireless power transfer is proposed. The proposed periodic rectifying surface cell is composed of integrated receiving metal structure and Schottky diode. Firstly, the diode's equivalent impedance is obtained by simulation. Then, the rectifying surface unit cell metal structure is properly designed to be directly matched to the diode impedance without extra matching circuit. Adjacent periodic cells are connected together by the unit cell's arms to form a series connected DC structure. Thus, only a single layer is required for the rectifying surface design. To verify the design concept, a 5 × 10 array is fabricated and measured. Experimental results show that the proposed structure can produce 228 mW DC power at 2.45 GHz under normal incident power density of 1.1324 mW/cm2 when the load is 950 Ω. The proposed rectifying surface has the potential to be applied in a microwave wireless power transfer system.
