Abstract

In the interests of observing (in)equalities, statistical data about UK academic staff in the discipline of education was explored in relation to sex, ethnicity, age, disability, religious belief and nationality. The statistical data was collected by higher education (HE) institutions during the academic years 2015–16 to 2019–20, as reported to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The staff composition was mapped with attention to changes in sociodemographics, any rates of growth and indications of the social impact on access to, and conditions of, employment. Visualisations illuminate the narrative of the report in which the findings of the study were presented (Belluigi et al., 2023), such as in figure 1.
