Abstract

Bolometric detectors made from superconducting thin films of yttrium barium copper oxi-de (YBCO) have been operated successfulLy at liquid nitrogen . temperatures The performance of these bolometers has been investigated both at visible wavelengths and in the far-infrared regime by the use of an optically-pumped formic acid vapour laser. Responsivities of the order of 10 v/w and response times of several microseconds have been demonstrated. These figures are compared with the results of other workers and the ultimate expected lerformance of such bolometers this estimated.
