The Art of the Game: Visual Methods, Artistic Engagement and Playful Ethnography

This article describes and analyzes a playful, scripted walk in the city of Prague that resulted in the production of photographs, found objects, and art installations. It explores 1) how the rules of the game created opportunities for ethnographic engagement, 2) the relation between the method and the construction of specific kinds of knowledge, 3) the affective dimensions of the process, and 4) the ways in which concrete spatial and material settings afforded interaction and aesthetic engagement.
