Abstract

The fragmentation of CS2 2+ has been investigated by recording photoelectron photoion coincidence (PEPICO) and photoelectron photoion photoion coincidence (PEPIPICO) spectra with energy analysis of the photoelectron, excited by HeIIα (40.8 eV) radiation. From these spectra mean dication energies can be determined; it is found that the mean energy of metastable CS2 2+ ions is 27.6±0.4 eV, that the mean energy of states which fragment to give CS++S+ is 32.7±0.4 eV and that the mean internal energy of the fragments CS++S+ is ~2 eV.
