Abstract

Coopetition is a phenomenon of substantial interest to academics and practitioners. Researchers have adopted many theoretical perspectives to examine coopetition but clarity and depth regarding their core underpinnings are lacking. In addition, while the phenomenon’s nuances require explanations that incorporate multiple perspectives, limited efforts are undertaken to provide an integrative analysis. This paper addresses these issues by reviewing coopetition insights through five important theories and by illustrating how an integrative approach can generate a more systematic understanding of coopetition. Our paper offers a holistic overview of current explanations and sets a path for integrating multiple perspectives in future research.
