Abstract

This essay traces the genealogy of the notion of interdisciplinarity in the legal field, offering a critical discussion of the relationship between law and other areas of knowledge. Starting from a historical perspective, the work begins by exploring the evolution of the organization of knowledge ― from a holistic approach to the emergence of specialized disciplines, culminating in the generative openness of the modern interdisciplinary approach. The focus then shifts to the interaction between law and interdisciplinarity research methodology, assessing its potential, limitations, and the risks inherent in the collaboration between legal studies and other scientific disciplines. In the conclusion, the essay proposes a vision for the future of the relationship between law and interdisciplinarity, emphasizing the importance for law to develop a dialogic identity that enables it to address global challenges effectively and inclusively, without losing its disciplinary essence.
