Abstract

'Up By The Roots' for speaker and piano trio is an inter-disciplinary collaboration with poet Professor Sinead Morrissey. The work takes the form of a melodrama in which separate musical items and poetry (written and spoken by Sinead Morrissey) on the theme of migration gradually become fused into one as the work progresses. 'Up By The Roots' was commissioned by Fidelio Trio as part of the PRS for Music Foundation 'Beyond Borders' scheme, and was premiered at Sheffield University on 3 May 2016 before being heard at prestigious festivals in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. A CD recording appears on 'Up By The Roots', on Delphian Recordings DCD34223 in February 2020.
