Using MONOPOLYTM to teach the legal aspects of money, crypto and central bank digital currencies

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter (peer-reviewed) › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter uses MONOPOLY™ as a game-based learning tool to teach the legal aspects of money, crypto, and central bank digital currencies (CBDC). By layering FinTech elements onto the traditional board game, students gain hands-on experience with evolving payment systems—banknotes, crypto, and CBDC—through experiential play. The activity fosters critical thinking, legal interpretation, and financial literacy, particularly among non-law students. Reflections reveal insights into trust, market dynamics, and regulatory challenges. This innovative approach addresses gaps in financial education and supports inclusive learning in commercial law.
