Abstract
The PAX Good Behaviour Game (PAX GBG) is an evidence-based universal prevention program, which uses social interdependence theory to create cooperative groups that work together to comply with collectively agreed behaviours, with the aim of winning non-tangible rewards for the group. This process aims to improve mental health by increasing self-regulation amongst the group and individually. The 15 Northern Irish elementary schools in this study were located in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. Teachers in the intervention group received PAX GBG training and implemented the intervention for 12 weeks. A range of pre-post test measures including child reported behaviours were undertaken. After the 12 weeks this exploratory trial provided some evidence that the PAX GBG may help improve self-regulation in participating pupils.
