Abstract
Victimology (also victimotology) is the scientific inquiry into issues related to victims, such as what
makes people vulnerable to becoming a victim and how people’s lives are affected when offenses are
perpetrated against them or their property. It also includes the study of perpetrators and offenders
and their relationship to the victims of the offenses they commit. Victimology attracts a wide range of
theories from within multiple disciplines, including sociology, psychology, criminal justice, law, and
advocacy.
