Abstract

This paper presents a novel circularly polarized Fabry-Perot (CPFP) antenna which can achieve high gain and wide bandwidth simultaneously. In the proposed antenna, a wideband circularly polarized (CP) microstrip patch is employed as the feeding source and a two-layer Partially Reflective Surface (PRS) with positive reflective phase gradient is designed as a superstrate. To validate the concept, an antenna prototype at X band is developed. Simulation results show that it can achieve a peak gain of 14.98 dBi and a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 27.7% from 8.7 GHz to 11.5 GHz. Within this frequency range, the axial ratio (AR) value is below 3dB and the reflection coefficient is below -10dB.
