Student thesis: Doctoral ThesisDoctor of Philosophy

Abstract

This thesis presents a Lacanian psychoanalytic analysis of how medical students are trained to become doctors. It engages with relevant literature across psychoanalysis and Health Professions Education (HPE) applying psychoanalytic ideas to areas of contemporary HPE practice. The thesis continues with an empirical longitudinal interview study employing Lacanian Discourse Analysis as a methodology. Throughout the thesis there are dedicated sections to researcher reflexivity.
