Cultural trauma and transgenerational transmission in Northern Ireland

Abstract

This thesis will examine the phenomenon of transgenerational trauma in post-conflict Northern Ireland. There have been several projects from the field of psychiatry and psychology examining the transmission of trauma and its effects on individuals, however there is a gap in knowledge about the manifestations of trauma on social groups and collective identities. This research is the first analysis from a sociological lens how trauma is transmitted within cultural groups in Northern Ireland.
