    Abstract

This thesis explores the military aspects of the war. It examines the military resources and tactics used by both the Gaelic forces and the Tudor army. It points to some of the similarities in tactics adopted and the use of different forms of guerrilla war tactics used by the Irish troops led by Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone. Since graduating in 2014, Dr O'Neill published his thesis as 'The Nine Years War, 1593–1603 O'Neill, Mountjoy and the Military Revolution' (Dubin: Four Courts Press, 2017).
