This thesis examines the four mendicant orders in medieval Dublin: Augustinians, Carmelites, Dominicans and Franciscans. It considers their finances, the level of support they received and how they were depicted in literature. It also discusses how they used different spaces which shows that they were not confined to the traditional role of begging at the entrances to Dublin.
