Abstract


CREATIVE ABSTRACT
We Play Here is a collection of four poem sequences set in Protestant working class North Belfast in the summer of 1988 against a backdrop of the Troubles. Four female 12-year-old friends navigate an eerie, elemental landscape of normalised violence, poverty, and neglect.

CRITICAL ABSTRACT
This thesis examines Elizabeth Bishop’s technique of overlapping lyric and narrative in her autobiographical short story writing of childhood.
