Phd project : Intimacy and the Aesthetic of the Interior in Fin-de-Siècle Belgium

Supervisor : Dr. Claire Moran (School of Arts, English and Languages) and Prof. Margaret Topping (The Graduate School)

    Research Statement

My research focus on Belgian interior paintings in the end of the nineteenth century, against the backdrop of architectural changes in the layout of houses, notably in the Art Nouveau style. It deals with the concepts of intimacy and domesticity, with a particular emphasis on women's representation and the dialogue between private and public spaces. My corpus of study will include (but not confined to) James Ensor, Fernand Khnopff, Georges Le Brun and Rik Wauters.

I hold a MA in Art History, obtained at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2013.
