    Research Interests

We are interested in developing innovative funational materials and exploring the material applications for energy utilisation, environmental protection and healthcare. In particular, these include synthesis or functionalisation of materials such as MOFs, activated carbon, zeolites, metal oxides, porous organic polymers and metal catalysts; characterisation of material structures and properties; removal of aqueous heavy metal cations and organic pollutants; hydrogen and mechane storage; carbon dioxide adsorption; medicine storge and release for therapies (bioactive molecules such as nitric oxide); gas adsorption/separation; antimicrobial function of biomaterials; Pickering emulsification; multiple phase reactuion; FT catalyst and syngas conversion; coal and coke processing.

    Achievements and Distinctions

Our research has been supported by EPSRC etc. Research findings have been published in high impact journals such as Science, Nature Chemistry, Journal of the Amercian Chemical Society, ACS Catalysis, Chemistry of Materials, Applied Energy, Journal of Materials Chemistry A etc. h-index: 19 and citation:4000 (Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=-XRISTAAAAAJ&hl=en). We have been invited to disseminate our results at national/international conferences, workshops, and academic seminars. Students won the prizes at national conferences.

    Particulars

If you are interested in studying for the PhD/MPhil degree in my group or working as a visiting researcher/PhD supported by the CSC or other funding bodies, looking for collaboration for research and research grant application or other supports, or you expect to know more details about our research, please directly contact me by sending an email to b.xiao@qub.ac.uk or come to my office (DKB/LG 439) to have a discussion.

In recent years we have attracted national/international people coming from different backgrounds working in our group. They are  MEng/MPhil/PhD students, the postdoctoral researcher and visiting professors.
