    Research Statement

My thesis centres on sport, in particular football, as a process of translation. As such it applies a translational understanding to the way in which sport offers a network of international relationships, and to translation’s role within this intercultural and interlingual phenomenon. My thesis aims to demonstrate how translation is indispensable in a sporting context as it highlights how sport is intrinsic to identity and acts both as a metaphor for selfhood and as a way of enshrining contact with the Other.
