    Danielle McConville (nee McMahon) has been a member of teaching staff on the Accounting pathway since September 2008, having previously qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CAI) with Ernst & Young LLP, Belfast. 

    Danielle is a Lecturer (Education), Adviser of Studies for all BSc Accounting students and Senior Personal Tutor for Queen’s Management School.

    Research Interests

    Danielle's research interests are in accountability to stakeholders in a not-for-profit context, including:

    • The impact of stakeholders on the development of accounting and reporting in the UK charity sector (specifically, on the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)) (Hyndman and McMahon, 2010, 2011; Connolly, Hyndman and McConville, 2013 (BAR))
    • UK charities’ transparency on performance in the context of meeting stakeholder needs, with a particular focus on publicly-available communications and reporting on efficiency (Connolly, Hyndman and McConville, 2013 (Voluntas); Hyndman and McConville, 2015) and effectiveness (Hyndman and McConville, 2016)
    • Current practice in UK charity accounting and areas for further research, including an article Connolly, Hyndman and McMahon, 2011) and a book chapter (Connolly, Hyndman and McConville, 2013)
    • The importance and challenges of impact reporting in the charity sector (McConville 2017 in print)
    • Public and private mechanisms used by UK charity managers to discharge accountability and build trust with stakeholders (Hyndman and McConville, forthcoming)
    • Approaches to regulation of performance reporting globally (McConville and Cordery, forthcoming)

    Related to her research interests, Danielle has been involved with a number of charity sector initiatives in the UK and Ireland. These include a report for the Charity Commission with QUB colleagues on the development of the charity SORP (Connolly, Hyndman and McMahon, 2009), presented at a number of regulator/government hosted conferences in London, Edinburgh and Dublin. She has been a member of the organising committee of joint consultations with the Charity Commission NI (June 2016) and the Centre for Not-for-Profit and Public Sector Research’s January 2017 conference Public Services and Charities: Accounting, Accountability and Governance at a Time of Change.
