I supervise students undertaking Masters degrees in various fields of primary and post-primary Teaching and Education.

    Particulars

    Background and Qualifications

My first degree was MA (Hons) French and German from the University of St Andrews and I also hold a Graduate Diploma in Spanish from the University of Dundee. I completed at PGCE in Modern Languages and a Master of Teaching (M.Teach) at Queen's University Belfast and Stranmillis University College.

Before taking up my current lectureship, I taught Modern Languages across the 11-18 age range in secondary schools in Germany and Northern Ireland. Prior to this, I was a Research Assistant at the US Department of Education and I taught as a lecteur d'anglais at the University of Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle.

As part of my role at Queen's, I am Director of the Northern Ireland Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research (NICILT).

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

    Research Interests

I am particularly interested in Modern Languages in the primary school, Modern Languages Education and teacher professional development, focusing on bridging the gap between Initial Teacher Education and Beginning Teacher. I am currently studying part-time for a Doctorate in Education at QUB.

I have been successful in obtaining external funding to conduct research in the field of Modern Languages Education.
