    Research Interests

I am a lecturer in contemporary British history and joined Queen's in Jan 2015 having previously been at the University of Birmingham and the Open University. My research interests include race, immigration, the New Left, cultural studies, urban history, prostitution and photography.  I have published in Social HistoryHistory Workshop Journal and Patterns of Prejudice.  My first monograph - Black Handsworth: race in 1980s Britain - was published by the University of California Press in 2019, and in the same year I was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to spend six months researching at New York University.
