    Research Interests

After completing an MA in Music Psychology in Education at the University of Sheffield, I embarked on a PhD research project at Queen's University Belfast, focused on studying the roles of gesture in piano teaching and learning. This resulted in the first known categorisation of piano teachers' gestures and the establishment of a new framework for studying instrumental and vocal music teachers' gestures. My current research interests centre upon understanding how teachers can improve their teaching and promote self-reliant and independent learners in Higher Education and beyond. I am Editor and member of the founding editorial team of the newly created open access journal International Modern Perspectives on Academia and Community Today (IMPACT), based at Queen's University Belfast, which considers submissions from all academic disciplines on the topics of public engagement, outreach, community engagement and involvement.

As a Research Development Consultant at QUB, I support PhD students developing academic and employability related skills through the design and delivery of innovative learning programmes and workshops aimed at developing future ready and resilient researchers. Apart from this role, I am also the founder and Director of Enact Music and Course Director of the Certificate for Music Educators (CME) course Level 4, at Enact Music, accredited both by Trinity College London and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Currently, I am writing a coursebook for the CME course level 4, entitled Certificate for Music Educators Guidebook: Teaching Children (forthcoming in 2020, Routledge).
