    Research Interests

    My post-doctoral research has centred on transdermal delivery of drugs and vaccines using novel microneedle (MN) technologies. My current research project, carried out in collaboration with the international non-profit organisation, PATH, involves the development and characterisation of dissolving MN arrays for the delivery of an anti-HIV medication. In addition to this experimental research, I help to supervise the work of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the laboratory and am also involved in grant acquisition and administration and laboratory management.  

    Over and above these research interests, I am passionately committed to science communication and to this end, I have a very strong profile in public engagement on a national level. For example, I spear-head the School of Pharmacy’s contribution to a School Universities Partnership Initiative (SUPI), funded by RCUK which endeavours to take scientific research into the laboratories and classrooms of over 270 school pupils in Northern Ireland, making science more accessible and encouraging them to consider pursuing science subjects at third level.
