I am currently a PhD student at Queen's University Belfast undertaking a DEL Strategic Studentship on 'The Effects of school on Pupils Attitudes towards Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence’. The aim of my research is to gain a deeper understanding of the development and current state of young people’s attitudes towards domestic violence in addition to the roles school might play in shaping attitudes. Through a secondary analysis of the Wellbeing in Schools (WiSe) longitudinal survey collected by NISRA (2013), the study will identify the specific contribution of schools in terms of the variation in pupil’s attitudes, and how much of these attitudes can be attributed to school-level factors (such as existing policies and interventions as well as schools’ broader ethos). In conjunction with the analysis of the WiSe data and identification of case studies, qualitative analysis will be implemented.
