    Research Interests

Much of my research has focused on the development of different aspects of temporal cognition in young children. I am currently working on aspects of children's future thinking on an ESRC-funded project with Cristina Atance, and on another project with Eugene Caruso which is examining temporal asymmetries in children's thinking. Along with Marc Buehner, David Lagnado, and Christoph Hoerl, I am also examining the effects of children's causal beliefs on their temporal judgments in a project funded by the Leverhulme Trust. I have a long-standing interest in interdisciplinary work with philosophers, and I am associated with the Consciousness and Self-Consciousness Research Centre at the University of Warwick. I am co-director of the AHRC project "Time: Between Metaphysics and Psychology" along with Christoph Hoerl at Warwick.

I teach developmental psychology and supervise final-year and MSc projects in this area.

I completed my undergraduate degree and PhD at the Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Cambridge. After a year lecturing at the University of Kent, I moved to the University of Warwick to work as a postdoctoral researcher with Gordon Brown. In 2000, I was appointed as a lecturer at Warwick, before moving to Queen's University Belfast in 2002. I was promoted to Reader and then to Professor of Cognitive Development in 2010.
