This paper made a proposition for using participatory architectural ethnography as a method for supporting dialogue between mainstream and indigenous or minority cultures. Architectural Ethnography is an emerging field of practice and there are multiple ways to interpret it as a field of activity (Kaijima, Stalder et al. 2018). In this presentation, I use the term to describe the research and graphic documentation of a place, noting the physical surroundings, the material context and the socio-spatial practices of the people that inhabit it. I speculate how a participatory architectural ethnographic study of public space in Inari, carried out with the local people, could provide insights regarding the socio-spatial practices associated with the place.
